My Weight Loss Journey.
With God as my witness, I never believed I ate enough to weigh 500 pounds. But, I did. A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes compounded my weight issues. Over the next 30 years, I battled to lose weight and manage my blood sugar levels.
While I wasn’t perfect, I lost around 200 pounds and maintained my blood sugar at levels my doctor found acceptable. But diabetes is a progressive disease and no matter what steps I took, it progressed; despite the significant weight loss, the diabetes got worse.
BBBB
This is my story of perserverance, struggle, and ultimate triumph over obesity and diabetes.
I tried nearly every diet imaginable. From buying countless books to following advice from weight loss experts, the goal of achieving a healthy weight always seemed just out of reach. Despite learning valuable lessons from each diet—such as portion control from pre-packaged diet plans and low-carb principles from medically supervised diets—I repeatedly discovered that calorie-restricted diets simply didn’t work for me.
A Dark Turn
In November 2022, my journey took a terrifying turn. I developed a diabetic ulcer on my foot, leading to a severe infection that spread to the bone. I was hospitalized for two weeks, and laid up for the next three months during which time, my foot didn’t touch the ground. The possibility of losing my foot—or worse—loomed over me. It was the darkest period of my life, exacerbated by memories of my neighbour Dave, who had lost his foot, then his life to a similar infection.
A Moment of Clarity
During my hospital stay, a doctor visited me and spoke about the need for a new approach to diabetes treatment. He mentioned liver and metabolic health, sparking a glimmer of hope. After three months of portion-controlled hospital food, I lost 50 pounds, only to regain it once I was back on my feet.
The Turning Point
In the summer of 2023, I weighed nearly 300 pounds again. One night, while watching YouTube, I stumbled upon a video by a cardiovascular surgeon from Florida. He explained the connections between diabetes, fatty liver disease, metabolic syndrome, and heart disease in a way that resonated with me. His words inspired me to make a change.
Embracing A Low-Carb Ketogenic Lifestyle
Drawing from my past experiences with low-carb diets, I transitioned to a strict low-carb regimen in August 2023. Within weeks, I was off all my diabetic medications and insulin. Now, in May 2024, I weigh 225 pounds and wear size 38 pants. My health has improved dramatically—my diabetic neuropathy and erectile dysfunction are gone, and I’m no longer in constant pain.
A New Perspective
While I’ve found a peace I never thought possible, I’m disheartened by the suffering I endured for so long. The answer was simple, yet my doctor—and seemingly the entire medical community—were unaware of the solution. Despite abundant online information and research, produced by medical professionals worldwide, this knowledge remains largely untapped by mainstream medicine.
Sharing My Story
I’m driven to share my journey with the world and to help others find the path to health that took me decades to discover. If you’re struggling with weight or diabetes, know that there is hope. By embracing a low-carb lifestyle, you too can achieve the health and peace you deserve.
Conclusion
My journey from 500 pounds to 225 pounds and from managing diabetes to reversing it entirely has been one of struggle, learning, and eventual triumph. I hope my story can inspire and guide others on their path to better health.
